
PATTAYA, Thailand – Mayor Poramet Ngampichet welcomed Mr. Kim Kyung-Duk, President of the Gyeonggi-do Taekwondo Association of the Republic of Korea, along with the association’s vice president and executive committee members. The delegation visited Pattaya City Hall to express their gratitude for the city’s role as co-host of the Pattaya Open International Taekwondo Championship 2025.
The event, held from May 9–10 at the Eastern National Indoor Athletics Building in Pattaya, Chonburi, marked its fifth consecutive year. It featured 49 teams from across Thailand and attracted over 3,000 spectators. The competition consisted of two categories: Poomsae (forms) and Kyorugi (sparring), aiming to enhance the skills of local and regional youth while boosting sports tourism and reinforcing Pattaya’s image as a global Sports City.
During the visit, both parties discussed deeper cooperation and the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to further develop taekwondo competitions and promote scholarship opportunities for young athletes. The goal is to expand access to taekwondo education and provide a path for promising youth to advance to the national team level.
Mayor Poramet expressed his strong support for the collaboration and affirmed Pattaya’s commitment to continuing its promotion of taekwondo, raising competition standards, and nurturing the next generation of elite Thai athletes.
