Some tourists choose to watch Pattaya Songkran from hotel balconies and rooftop bars, while others head into the crowds below for a full water fight experience along Beach Road and the city’s busy nightlife areas.

PATTAYA, Thailand – For many first-time visitors, Pattaya’s Songkran celebrations can feel both exciting and overwhelming. With huge crowds, nonstop water fights, loud music, traffic jams, and soaked streets, some tourists may wonder whether it is better to enjoy the atmosphere from the safety of a hotel balcony or head downstairs and fully join the action.

The answer depends on what kind of Songkran experience visitors are looking for.

Watching from a hotel room, balcony, rooftop bar, or beachfront restaurant can still be a fun way to enjoy the festival. Many tourists enjoy sitting above the crowds, watching the water battles unfold below while staying dry, comfortable, and away from the busiest areas. Higher floors along Beach Road often offer excellent views of the celebrations, especially during Wan Lai Pattaya on April 19.

For visitors who are not comfortable with large crowds, being soaked all day, or navigating packed streets, staying above the action can be the more relaxing choice.

However, many people say Pattaya Songkran is something that should be experienced at least once from street level. Walking through Beach Road, Soi 6, Soi 7, Soi 8, and other crowded areas puts visitors right in the middle of the music, water fights, dancing, and energy that make the festival famous.

Those planning to join the crowds are advised to prepare properly. Waterproof bags for phones and wallets are essential, along with light clothing, sandals with grip, sunscreen, and plenty of drinking water to avoid heat exhaustion. Carrying some cash is also recommended in case phone batteries die or digital payments become difficult in crowded areas.

Visitors should also avoid bringing expensive electronics, wearing anything valuable, or carrying passports unless necessary. Large ice blocks and high-pressure water guns should be avoided, as they can cause injuries and arguments.

In the end, Pattaya Songkran can be enjoyed both ways — from a balcony with a cold drink in hand, or in the middle of the chaos with a water gun. The important thing is to know your limits, prepare properly, and enjoy the experience safely.
