PATTAYA, Thailand – Pattaya City officials have inspected a flood-prone section of Soi Pattaya Klang 16 after residents and local businesses complained that heavy rain repeatedly leaves the road under up to 60 centimeters of water. On Sept. 1, Pattaya City Council members led officials from the Engineering Office, Sanitation Engineering Office and Public Complaints Division to inspect the area in front of March Hotel Pattaya.
Residents and business operators told officials that flooding occurs whenever heavy rain hits the area, with water sometimes rising to around 60 centimeters. The flooding disrupts traffic and daily life and creates a risk of damage to private property and businesses. Officials inspected the road and drainage system and listened to complaints from residents about the recurring problem. The Sanitation Engineering Office is now developing a solution that could involve raising the road surface and adjusting the height of drainage manhole covers to improve water flow and reduce low points where water accumulates.
Officials said the proposed work will first be assessed for structural and drainage-system suitability before being carried out through the proper procedures. The inspection team also examined a public road behind March Hotel after receiving a complaint that the area may have been used in a way that obstructs or affects public access. Relevant agencies have been asked to verify the facts, determine the boundaries of the public road and examine how the area is being used before deciding on further action under the law.
The inspection reflects Pattaya City’s efforts to address residents’ complaints covering both infrastructure and public-space management, with officials seeking practical measures to improve drainage, road conditions and public access in the area.
