Thailand has been increasingly allocating budgets toward innovations and research. Most recently, Thailand Science Research and Innovation (TSRI) has collaborated with partner agencies to organize “Triup Fair 2023”, showcasing the cream of works of innovation and research by Thais.

About 300 innovations and works of research that can readily be commercially applied were on display. These works and innovations were classified into 3 major categories, including “elevating Thai people’s health via the medical industry”, “driving high-quality food and agriculture”, and “supporting net zero greenhouse gas emissions”. The fair also provides the owners of the innovations and works of research with space to carry out business negotiations with those from the private sector. The latter were led by representatives from the Board of Trade of Thailand and the Federation of Thai Industries.

Discussions and lectures on intellectual property and getting innovations certified under Thai and foreign standards were also part of the main event. Advice on how to access research funds and on measures and regulations relevant to various types of research and innovation was also provided at the fair. Furthermore, financial products for businesses seeking to expand were available.

TSRI president Sutthiphon Chitmittraphap said the Triup Fair not only helps link works of research to the private sector, but also allows researchers to be aware of the requirements of businesses. This would enable researchers to be informed of matters that could result in innovations and works of research that matched demand from businesses, enabling them to receive funding.

FTI chairman Kriengkrai Thiennukul elaborated that innovations provide the answer for Thailand and are considered a changing point for the kingdom, with traditional industries and services offered by the country no longer being responsive to global demands. Additionally, Thailand has become an aged society that needed to be sustained by innovations to unlock additional economic value and make competition possible in the future. (NNT)
