CHONBURI, Thailand – Police in Ban Bueng have arrested a Chinese national accused of allowing Thai nationals to act as nominees holding company shares on behalf of foreigners in an alleged attempt to bypass Thailand’s foreign business restrictions.  On July 16, officers from Ban Bueng Police Station, working with Chonburi Immigration officers, local administrative officials, and the Chonburi Provincial Commerce Office, carried out a search at a company in Ban Bueng district. The operation was conducted under a search warrant issued by the Chonburi Provincial Court. Officers seized computers, mobile phones, CCTV equipment, and business documents believed to be related to the investigation.

During the inspection, authorities found a Chinese national identified as Ms. Zhen, who was wanted under an arrest warrant issued by the Chonburi Provincial Court. Police allege that the suspect allowed Thai nationals to hold shares on behalf of foreign interests, providing assistance to enable a foreigner to operate a business while avoiding or violating provisions of Thailand’s Foreign Business Act. The suspect was informed of the charges and legal rights before being taken to Ban Bueng Police Station for further legal proceedings. Authorities said investigations into possible violations and related business arrangements will continue as part of efforts to ensure foreign businesses operate in compliance with Thai laws.

Ms. Zhen, a Chinese national, is taken into custody by Ban Bueng Police after being accused in an alleged nominee shareholding case.

Authorities reaffirm their commitment to ensuring foreign businesses operate legally in Thailand and preventing the misuse of nominee arrangements.
