Officials from the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society oversee telecommunications infrastructure as authorities monitor international undersea cable networks to ensure Thailand’s internet connectivity remains uninterrupted.

BANGKOK, Thailand – The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (DE) has directed National Telecom Public Company Limited (NT) to monitor international undersea cable networks in the Middle East and assure the public and businesses that Thailand’s internet connectivity remains secure despite regional instability.

Minister of Digital Economy and Society Chaichanok Chidchob stated that he has instructed relevant agencies to assess potential risks and prepare emergency protocols. NT, as the primary telecommunications infrastructure provider, is responsible for keeping international communication gateways operational.

According to the Minister, NT maintains international internet gateways and connection points in Singapore, Hong Kong, the United States, and Europe, using both terrestrial routes and six co-invested undersea cable systems. NT has confirmed that redundant systems are in place to address potential disruptions. If a cable fails in the Middle East, traffic will be automatically rerouted through alternative paths to ensure uninterrupted service.

The Minister added that NT has submitted a comprehensive risk assessment and Business Continuity Plan, outlining severity levels and measures to safeguard Thailand’s telecommunications security. The Ministry is confident that these steps, including 24-hour monitoring, will prevent significant impacts on citizens or domestic businesses. (NNT)
