Richard Kawagoye.

On Monday the TRGG visited Bangpra and the course was playing long, but a cloudless day with a cooling breeze made for virtual ideal conditions.

Seamus Farrell found the conditions to his liking and shot 33 points for third place.  Just finishing ahead of Seamus was John Ryan with 34 but the winner of the day was Gary Ralph with 37 points.

Tuesday, Oct. 31, Phoenix Gold – Stableford

1st Noom Baxter (33) 39pts

2nd John Ryan (14) 35pts

3rd Laurence Lee (24) 34pts

The group got stuck behind a competition today, which meant they spent almost 5 hours to play 18 holes.  Still, not to be deterred the players put a brave face on the situation and Laurence Lee’s score of 33 points was enough to take third place.  John Ryan made it two second places in two days as his 35 points were not quite enough to take the top prize.  That honor went to Noom Baxter who made it 3 wins in her last 3 appearances.  This time her 39 points made her the comfortable winner.

Wednesday, Nov. 1, Pattavia – Stableford

1st Richard Kawagoye (13) 40pts

2nd Billy Allan (21) 37pts

3rd Neil Wilkinson (13) 36pts

Pattavia Centuri Golf Course was the destination on Wednesday.  This golf course can rightly claim to be one of the most improved tracks in the region and once again its fast angled greens proved to be a test for all of the players.

Neil Wilkinson, fresh from a break back in Australia played with renewed vigor and his 36 points were good enough to take third place.  Billy Allen made a rare venture onto the golf course and his 37 points saw him taking second place.  The winner of the day, Richard Kawagoye, scored an impressive 40 points with his first round at the society in 6 months.

Thursday, Nov. 2, Silky Oak – Stableford

1st Derek Thorogood (19) 45pts

2nd Kevin Smith (13) 40pts

3rd Richard Talbot (18) 38pts

Silky Oak invariably gives the players a good opportunity to shoot high scores.  Wide fairways and receptive greens make playing the course an attractive proposition and this was certainly the case on Thursday.

The scribe was delighted, firstly with his 38 points and secondly with the fact that it took only took 3 hours 30 minutes to complete the round.  Just piping the scribe was Ireland’s very own Kevin Smith, whose 40 points on most days would have been enough to take the top prize but sadly not on this occasion.  The boss Derek Thorogood decided at last it was time to join the party as he posted a great score of 45 points.

Friday, Nov. 3, Burapha – Stableford

1st Jim Cooper (16) 36pts

2nd Barry Garbo (16) 34pts

3rd Dave Palmer (08) 34pts

Free Food Friday is getting to be something of an institution at the Travellers Rest with some players only being available to play on the last week day of the week as they are guaranteed a free meal at the end of it. The day is made even more popular as the group always visits Burapha which often rewards the golfers with high scores

Dave Palmer’s form seems to be fluctuating round by round, and a good day for him resulted in 34 points and third place. Just beating Dave on count back was Barry Garbo also scoring 34 points. The winner of the day however, was Jim Cooper with 36 points and this was the second day of the bounce that the management’s team had been victorious

Saturday, Nov. 4, Crystal Bay – Stabledford

1st Billy Allan (20) 35pts

2nd Kevin Smith (12) 34pts

3rd Richard Talbot (18) 32pts

With the week’s high winds blowing even stronger on this rather exposed course, scoring was made difficult on Saturday.  The scribe snatched his second podium of the week with his 32 points taking third position.

Kevin Smith continued with his fine form and his 34 points were good enough for the runners up spot.  Sadly however, the inevitable could not be denied and Billy Allan, who announced that he is now the firm favorite for the TRGG golfer of the year award, shot an impressive 35 points to take the top spot.
