IPGC Pattaya Golf Society at The Links Bar

Post Ryder Cup “red eye syndrome” meant a smaller than usual turnout for the PGS at Pleasant Valley on Monday, 3rd October.  In fact the only other farang group on the course was a Cafe Kronberg trio for the majority of the round.  The course was soft and damp and greens were slow, as usual, meaning play from the blue tees was long and testing.

Results showed three golfers sharing second place on 28 points, viz, Frank Harrington, Greg Gawron and Wayne Peppernell, leaving southpaw golfer Colin Service out in front with 30 points in his final round this trip.  Colin also shared the ‘2’s pot with Gary Bolger, leaving the choice of Keith Melbourne and Mr Len for the consolation beer and of course Keith was the lucky man.  One of those days, I’m afraid!

Batty boss at Bangpra

On Friday, 7th October the Pattaya Golf Society were represented by a small group at Bangpra, on a course which was almost empty and soft after the many wet spells the region is currently suffering.  Playing from the white tees the course appeared long as a result of soft fairways offering little run.

Scores were moderate only with Mr Len running in third with a mere 28 points, one behind Wichai Tananusorn whose uncharacteristic four-over front nine left him with a mountain to climb on the back.  Three more dropped shots left him as runner-up with 29 points.  The winner was Jon Batty who managed to drop three shots on the par fives in amassing 33 points.  There were no birdie ‘2’s.

On the plus side it was good to see old friends starting to return, escaping the approach of the northern hemisphere winter and better days lie ahead as courses dry out and golfers anticipate the challenges to come.
