Regents International School Pattaya is an international school in the true sense – offering its culturally diverse students (51 nationalities) a holistic education as a gateway to any university in the world, including prestigious American universities. The holistic education that Regents offers allows students to not only flourish in their academic studies, but in essential co-curricular areas of sport and creative and performing arts. Such a record of learning and achievement makes powerful supporting evidence in personal statements that are so important in the American university application process.
Some of the terminology in the international and American school systems may differ – ‘years’ vs ‘grades’ for instance. However, emphasis on the core subjects of English, Maths and Science is no different, with Languages also considered a vital part of the curriculum. Moreover, as a Nord Anglia Education school, Regents will shortly collaborate with MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) to enhance the teaching and learning of STEAM subjects.
The Lovich family, an American family whose three children were happily educated at Regents for the past 7 years and relocated back to the US last term, are a wonderful example of the easy transition between the two education systems. Mrs Lovich explains; “We have found the transition, academically, to be quite easy and our children are just finishing their first term: one with all As, and the others with As and Bs. Of course, Regents offered a unique opportunity for our children to see the world, challenge themselves to do things they once thought they couldn’t, have a diverse friend group and a real feeling of family.”
The ‘Sixth Form’ at Regents is roughly equivalent to Senior High School in the US and students study toward an International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma. This Diploma is recognised by the vast majority of higher education institutions in the US, with no minimum score normally required. Rather, a combination of factors including evidence of attainment in the extended essay and creativity, service activities, personal statements along with individual subject performance are all taken into account. The IB Diploma really does turn out well rounded global citizens ready to take on the challenges of the modern world.
Regents IB staff work closely with students applying to US universities, including preparation for SAT exams, and students value their expertise and experience when it comes time to write their personal statements.
As a Round Square school, service is at the heart of Regents. With similar ideals to the National Honour Society in American schools, Regents students participate in building and community development projects here in Thailand and across the world.
Regents International School Pattaya’s catch phrase invites families to ‘share their global outlook’. That outlook embodies being ambitious in learning, celebrating cultural diversity, overcoming personal challenges, selflessly serving others and proactively protecting the environment. With such a worthy international ethos, it is no wonder that Regents’ record in placing graduates in prestigious higher education institutions around the world is so impressive.
