Banglamung District Chief Naris Niramaiwong said officials are just doing their jobs, will continue to do their jobs and that the raids will continue.

PATTAYA – Banglamung’s district chief defended the seemingly unending series of raids of Pattaya-area bars and nightclubs, saying authorities are simply carrying out orders from the military government.

Naris Niramaiwong met with reporters June 21 to try to quell the growing chorus of criticism online about repeated busts at pubs and gentlemen’s clubs. Many online users, both Thai and foreign, are complaining that authorities are overdoing it and are damaging Pattaya’s reputation with the constant stream of negative news.

Naris said district officials are under orders from the junta to wipe out human trafficking, crime, prostitution, drugs and guns. But he noted that the government orders align with the mission of police and the military to wipe out illegal activities.

He denied online assertions that authorities are only raiding establishments that aren’t paying “tea money”, or regular bribes to continue operating outside the law. He denied police or other authorities received any kind of weekly or monthly bribe.

The bottom line, Naris said, is that officials are just doing their jobs, will continue to do their jobs and that the raids will continue.

Where has he been living? On the moon?

More Tea Money extraction. The corruption is no secret. We all see the local police enter a bar, place their hats on a table & the bar girls drop in their required offerings. Sure the police “may” provide some protection in a fight or beatings. Most bar girls can trash drunken ferangs with ease. UTube has many online videos. The police seldom shutdown the noisy party punks along Jomtien Beach Road, even after many phone calls.I suppose the Mini Mart owners want 24 hr business, so they pay off the police to ignore the complaints..

Then,, like the American West ” sin cities ” they can leave fronts of buildings, offer tours of the Old Pattaya or build some new condo high rises & malls !

Change has been a long time coming. Those who need to change will complain the loudest. The governments intent to change the business model to more healthy and sustaining businesses is to be commended.

Being the flesh trade capital of the world is not a healthy business model. Chief Naris Niramaiwong is to be commended for staying the course.

Absolutely NOT! They NEED these bars to get their Thea money. That’s the fact. Nothing illegal, no extortion.

” He denied police or other authorities received any kind of weekly or monthly bribe”.
    LOL…LOL…LOL…LOL.
That statement is about as laughable as the one from the government minister a few weeks ago that took a walk down Walking St and said they saw no evidence of prostitution.

Maybe he should walk around these bars with his eyes open! Even as a farang customer I have seen the BIB come into bars blatantly take cash (and sometimes a free drink) and leave. By the way Naris Niramaiwong this “Tea money” is not restricted to Pattaya I have also seen the same thing in Chiang Mai and Bangkok.
I am sure it is very nice to close your eyes and pretend your police are not corrupt but that does not make it true. If you truly want to stamp out prostitution how about your wonderful non corrupt police rounding up the dozens of beach road prostitutes and ladyboys that haunt beach road EVERY night and steal from tourists, Ahh of course no “tea money” there.
You raid a bar and catch maybe 10 bar girls, you round up the beach road low life and you would net 50 plus every night. Do you wonder why people do not believe the stories the authorities put out?
