A 70-year-old grandmother stabbed a 15-year-old she found breaking into her grocery store.

The teenager suffered a 3cm stab wound to the head in the Feb. 24 incident on Soi Tanman-Thunglom 13. He was given first aid and taken to Banglamung Police Station.

Suri Suwannapat said she had closed the grocery in the front of her home and gone to bed when she heard someone breaking in through the ventilation system. The boy, she claimed, covered her mouth, but she fought back and screamed for help.

Suri’s niece, Malini Greemla, 24, came from next door, but was unable to fight off the larger boy. Suri said she then pulled out a knife she keeps under her bed and stabbed the suspect.

Police suspect the teenager was under the influence of drugs. Officers said the boy confessed to the break-in, claiming to need money to visit his girlfriend in Bangkok.
