Having imposed new regulations for Pattaya beach-chair vendors, Chonburi officials now are moving to ensure they remain enforced.

Deputy Governor Chawalit Saeng-Uthai chaired a Feb. 3 meeting to review the success of the new rules, which compresses beach-chair zones and wipes Pattaya and Jomtien beaches of all chairs and umbrellas every Wednesday.

Chawalit said he believes the beaches are much tidier and, on Wednesdays, give boundless views that haven’t happened in Pattaya for decades.

To keep things that way, the deputy governor said Chonburi has set up two inspection teams, one for Pattaya and the other for Jomtien.

The teams will report violators of the regulations to the city with proposed appropriate punishments. They also will report the operational progress for Pattaya to collect information and report to the Chonburi governor.

The meeting also handled 16 chair-related complaints, including allowing one vendor whose plot was flooded to relocate to a new section of beachfront.
