This unidentified, allegedly
inebriated woman was found sleeping in a German tourist’s stolen boat.
Boonlua Chatree
Police riding jet skis captured an apparently drunk woman
who took a German man’s speedboat for a joyride.
Franz Josef Baumann, 70, called police after his
50-horsepower skiff named the “White Pearl” that he left on the beach in
front of Central Festival Pattaya Beach came up missing Jan. 28. They had
pulled ashore to go into a convenience store and left the keys in the
engine.
Witnesses told the German and a friend that a woman had
taken the boat, but were unsure of which way she went. Police coordinated
with Sawang Boriboon Foundation rescuers to send out officers on jet skis
with the victims to search for the boat.
Well after sunset they found it about 500 meters offshore
with a drunk woman in her early 30s sleeping it off. The woman told police
she hadn’t intended to steal the boat and that the current had taken it so
far offshore.
The Germans did not press charges and the woman was
released after being brought back to the mainland.
