City, community leaders brainstorm anti-drug programs

The Office of Narcotics Prevention and Suppression’s Sen. Sgt. Maj. Wittaya Chansiri leads the Feb. 3 session.

Pratchaya Kerdthong

Pattaya officials and community leaders brainstormed ideas to curtail illegal drug use and welcomed new members into a “Strong Community” anti-drug program.

The Office of Narcotics Prevention and Suppression’s Sen. Sgt. Maj. Wittaya Chansiri led the Feb. 3 session that covered the establishment and operation of community projects to provide activities, education and training for drug users. The office also welcomed the Laem Chabang school group and Laem Chabang factory group into the Strong Community program to eradicate drugs from area neighborhoods.

Wittaya said 85 neighborhoods have applied to join to project, which has already been responsible for a marked decrease in drug use in the Krathinglai community. He called that neighborhood’s anti-drug effort a model for the region as it features both neighborhood watch guards and education and employment training.

Office administrators also spent time offering advice on how member communities can apply for funds to build sports fields and other projects that can create positive diversions and curtail drug use in each area.
