Pattaya-area children were told to be prudent, thoughtful
and public-minded before being set loose for fun and games in the annual
Children’s Day celebration.
Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome kicked off the Jan. 8
festivities at Pattaya City Hall, reading a message from the Prime
Minister’s Office urging youngsters to be careful and mindful of others and
become solid resources for the country’s future growth. After hearing more
about how the government works on behalf of its children, the kids got a
chance to play with some of its toys.
Royal Thai Navy vehicles were on display and children
were given a chance to climb aboard a Pattaya city fire truck. In between,
they enjoyed gifts and refreshments and were presented scholarships.
Chonburi Gov. Wichit Chatpaisit relayed a similar message
at Chonburi City Hall with games such as elastic shooting and parachuting,
with a royal projects exhibition following.
Children’s Day activities played out through the area.
The Tiffany and Alcazar theaters hosted stage shows by professional actors
as well as students from various schools.
The Pattaya Orphanage and Government Housing Bank threw a
“gift from me to you” ceremony at the center on Soi Nernplabwan with
scholarships given out to a number of children. The Orphanage also held a
fun sports day for medal and prizes.
The Million Years Stone Park and Crocodile Farm,
Sanctuary of Truth, Mini Siam, and Underwater World also attracted a lot of
kids and welcomed them with gifts and games. Million Years Stone Park opened
their gates for free and distributed 100 1,000-baht scholarships.
In Sattahip, the Royal Thai Navy took the leadership role
in most the Children’s Day activities.
The Royal Thai Marines opened its camp to 1,431 kids and
77 teachers to take part in stage performance, viewing shows and inspecting
vehicles
At Juk Samed Pier, more than 2,000 kids and parents
delighted with a cruise on the HTMS Chakri Naruebet. Traffic, however, was
not fun for anyone, with the queue into the case stretching for about a
kilometer.
During the tour of seven local islands, the kids
experienced an armaments display, aircraft flyover and military deployment
at sea.
The navy also staged activities at the Sea Turtle
Conservation Center, Air and Coastal Defense Command, Samae San, Sattahip,
Laemtien Pier, Naval Air Division, and U-Tapao-Pattaya International
Airport. All the events featured music, gifts and games.
