Thai Airways International (THAI) is all set to operate its entire international and domestic flights from Suvarnabhumi Airport, with the confirmed plan to move all 23 domestic flights from Don Mueang Airport from March 29.
THAI executive vice-president for commercial, Pandit Chanapai, said the move would allow THAI to improve flight connectivity and reduce connecting times between domestic and international flights, particularly for passengers transiting through Don Mueang to Suvarnabhumi Airport.
Connecting times between Don Mueang and Suvarnabhumi are presently about one to two hours, but are expected to be reduced by half when THAI operates out of a single airport.
THAI acting president, Air Chief Marshal Narongsak Sangapong, said the Thai flag carrier would also be able to save 600 million baht in operation costs per year from operating all flights out of a single airport.
Following the move, THAI City Air Terminal at MRT Subway Lad Praow Station, which provides check-in service for THAI’s passengers traveling through Don Muang, will be closed, saving the airline another two million baht per day on operation costs.
THAI has been operating part of its domestic flights out of Don Mueang Airport since March 2007, following the government’s policy to help relieve congestion at Suvarnabhumi Airport.
After THAI’s departure, Thai-based low-cost carriers Nok Air and One-Two-Go Airlines will remain and continue their operations at Don Mueang Airport.
