Dusit International appoints first Global Director of Sales

Consumer goods manufacturers pledge to freeze prices until end-2008

Some 20 of Thailand’s top consumer goods manufacturers, who collectively produce over 100 daily necessities, have pledged to maintain the retail prices of their goods until the end of the year, according to Commerce Minister Chaiya Sasomsup.
Chaiya said the manufacturers had informed the ministry at a meeting last week that they had decided on the move in the face of falling global oil prices, which has reduced their production costs.
However not all producers have been so lucky.
Chaiya said his ministry would consider allowing manufacturers affected by rising costs, for example the dairy products sector, to raise their goods prices at an appropriate level. Producers will be invited for a meeting with the commerce ministry in the future.
“What is worrisome now is the high monthly average inflation which stands at between 7-8 per cent. The commerce ministry will have to put effort in to contain this year’s average inflation to around 5-8 per cent, which is possible if every concerned party cooperates,” Chaiya said.
The Ministry’s Internal Trade Department planned to invite manufacturers of building materials to a meeting this week to requesting them to freeze their own product prices. (TNA)

Dusit International appoints first Global Director of Sales

Bangkok – Dusit International has marked a significant milestone with the recent appointment of the first Global Director of Sales, Simon Burgess, who will be responsible for overseeing all aspects pertaining to the sales strategies and activities of Dusit International’s hotels and resorts worldwide.
As Dusit International brings new properties on line, both in Thailand and overseas, a new global sales structure will be implemented, with a renewed emphasis on key account management, to meet the demands of the company’s expansion. The re-structure follows the launch of a similar global sales initiative for the Dusit Princess Hotels & Resorts brand which is already in place.
Octavio Gamarra, Senior Vice President, Dusit International, said “Simon’s appointment to the newly introduced role of Global Director of Sales for the company will provide the leadership and management of the sales activities in a more innovative and dynamic environment. We are delighted to have him in this role after 3 years in the operations field of one of our leading resorts, Dusit Thani Hua Hin. His experience on property combined with his international tourism marketing background will prove to be invaluable as we set Dusit International more aggressive targets for 2009.”
Simon Burgess commenting on his appointment said: “This is an exciting time to be working with Dusit International as our portfolio of properties continues to grow, both in Asia and worldwide. ‘dusitD2 baraquda pattaya’ will open later this year and ‘dusitD2 samui’ will open in mid 2009, presenting new opportunities for our progressive ‘dusitD2’ design brand. In addition, we open Dusit Thani LakeView Cairo at the beginning of next year as well as having two properties scheduled for Abu Dhabi and three properties on The Palm Jumeirah.”
Simon Burgess has a long association with Dusit International dating back to 2003 when he worked in London as an Account Director for the UK Regional Sales Office before joining Dusit Thani Hua Hin on property as the Executive Assistant Manager in 2005.
