Holiday Bazaar set for Saturday October 7 at Royal Cliff Hotel, Pattaya

One of the major annual charity fund raising events organized by the Pattaya International Ladies Club is the Holiday Bazaar. This year, as in previous years, the Holiday Bazaar will be held at the Royal Cliff Hotel, Pattaya. Last year, this event raised over 460,000 baht for charity.

Hundreds, perhaps thousands of items were on sale at last year’s bazaar, with even more scheduled for this year.

Many vendors from previous years were keen to return and this year there will also be some new vendors; in total some 70 will be offering their wares and services. As many come from different parts of Thailand, this event is a good place to find things not usually seen in Pattaya and do some Christmas shopping.
Final preparations are now well underway. Roseanne Diamente, special events chairperson and her team have put a great deal of time and effort into organizing this year’s event.
The winners of the five top raffle prizes will be announced on the day. This year there are 50 prizes to be won, kindly donated by the vendors, local and national companies and organisations. Tickets cost 50 baht each or a book of twelve tickets cost 500 baht and will be on sale at the bazaar. All proceeds go to charity.

Filipinos Association welcomes its new president

The Association of Filipinos in Thailand Easter Region Chapter (AFT-ER) held its annual induction and charity ball on August 26.
The event was honored by the presence of Philippines Ambassador Antonio V Rodriguez and attended by many dignitaries, including Deputy Mayor Ronakit Ekasingh and former Chonburi MP Chanyuth Hengtrakul.

Carlos B Serafica, president 2006-2008
“These events are an opportunity to celebrate our unique Filipino heritage and to galvanize the community towards noble and charitable projects,” said Ambassador Rodriguez. “AFT-ER has remained at the forefront of promoting the welfare of the Filipino community in Pattaya, Chonburi and Rayong. As with its mother organization in Bangkok, AFT-ER has been the embassy’s invaluable and longstanding partner in our efforts to reach out and extend consular services to Filipinos in this part of Thailand.”
The new president for year 2006-2008 is Carlos B Serafica, who gave a thank-you speech to the supporters.
Carlos said he was working for a foreign company in Chonburi when he met up with the forerunners of AFT-ER. Not long after that he became a member of the association, helping to promote Filipino camaraderie and fostering goodwill among the Thai community in the Eastern region. He was offered the presidency and accepted the title, with an aim to educate young members looking for guidance as they start their careers here.

After all the formalities, the floor was opened for everyone to dance away the night.
“We, the new committee, will be very proud if we can achieve even just half of what the past presidents and their officers have done selflessly for our many ‘kababayans’ through the AFT Eastern Region,” he said.
Virginia Sorensen, the immediate past president added that during her four-year presidency she was fortunate to have had the support of strong, dedicated advisors whose collective wisdom guided her decisions and communication with everybody throughout the years.
“As I bid farewell as president, and step back into the supporting role of past president, I wish to thank you all for this opportunity to help shape our association into what I hope will truly become our focus collectively and individually to build a much stronger camaraderie to this community as we continue our dedication in helping the underprivileged.
“I congratulate the new president Carlos Serafica and the new board members on this occasion.”
After the formalities and the induction procedure, a sumptuous buffet was put out and enjoyed by all, while several traditional and modern Filipino shows were performed by Bangkok Dance group as well as an AFT-ER group. Eventually the floor was opened for everyone to dance away the night.
The event was a very successful one, especially knowing that it was all for a good cause as proceeds will go to different charity organizations for underprivileged children.

The VIP table was full of smiles during the night.
