American tourist arrested for shoplifting

The American miscreant awaits his day in court.

James Joseph Petrie, 42, from San Francisco California, was arrested by Pattaya Police on November 21 for shoplifting a Sony video camera battery from Mike’s Department Store.
Petrie was allegedly observed by staff at Mike’s slipping the battery into his tot-bag and attempting to walk away with it. Security detained Petrie until the police arrived, whereupon Petrie claimed that he had been shopping for the battery, put it in his bag to carry to the check out counter, then forgot he had it. Petrie didn’t have an answer to police questions about why he didn’t have the necessary 1800 baht with him to pay for it.
Police have charged Petrie with theft and have sent the case to the court.
