Volunteers assemble to assist tourists

Suwaj Ratchatawatanakul, President of
Tourist Assistance Volunteers, addresses his people to teach them how
best to assist tourists.
Suwaj Ratchatawatanakul, President of Tourist Assistance Volunteers, led
a meeting of the agency last Friday to discuss methods of improving
operations. The volunteers’ aim is to help Pattaya’s image with tourists
and have them return with glowing stories of Pattaya. Suwaj commented
that any help given to tourists must be co-ordinated with police and be
lawful.
Suwaj gave the volunteers a briefing on basic laws which could apply to
situations tourists might find themselves in. He commented that the main
problem tourists have is being cheated or grossly overcharged for goods
and services.
Statistics show that tourists often create their own problems. An
example of this is rented cars and motorcycles. Tourists often rent them
and then go bar hopping, become wildly intoxicated and accidents occur.
Mr. Suwaj said this is highly prevalent. Thus, there is a need to
educate tourists about sensible and safe use of vehicles and driving in
a foreign country.
