High-school students got a taste of life on the beat in Pattaya
as area Tourist Police enlisted them in a “Youth Police” program to work
with foreigners.
Region 2 Tourist Police chief Col. Prapoj Chotikhun and Pattaya chief
Lt. Col. Arun Promphan led the evening course for 18 students from
Pattaya School No. 11 Aug. 1.
Before taking the field, the students had learned some basic Russian,
Chinese, Korean and English phrases from the police and then, under
supervision, were set loose at Bali Hai Pier to assist tourists.
Officials said the program was developed because of the historical fear
youths have of police. The training session brought down barriers
between the students and officers and gave them lessons in police work
that they might one day go into.
