780,000 baht raised to save 39 cattle during Mother’s Day ceremony

Devout Buddhists attend the redemption ceremony. To date, 780,000 baht has been collected to make merit by saving the lives of cattle.

Jetsada Homklin
The lives of 39 buffalos and cows can be spared and donated to poor families in Pattaya following a fundraising drive for Mother’s Day at Wat Jittapawan College.
The Aug. 9 redemption ceremony organized by the school, Pattaya City Hall and the Association for Meditation for Moral Development was the first of two aimed at raising nearly 2 million baht to purchase the livestock from slaughterhouses and donate them to families in need of field and farm animals.
To date, 780,000 baht has been collected, enough for 39 head of cattle priced at 20,000 baht each.
Buddhists believe redeeming any life, even of an animal, is a great merit-making accomplishment. That the cattle help the poor makes it even more worthy.
Another ceremony is planned for Father’s Day in December. Those interested in participating can call 094-313-9597.
