A Chiang Mai man was arrested for allegedly stealing a
14-year-old’s handbag containing 78 baht.
Surasak Multhin, 32, was detained by an unidentified resident near a
Thipmanee Cable TV center on Soi Nongyai 8 Nov. 25. Police arrived to
find him with a woman’s purse containing the 78 baht and makeup
belonging to Mattayom 2 student Kanchana Jansorn.
Kanchana told police she was driving toward the tunnel on Banmap 2 when
Surasak drove up alongside and snatched her purse. She chased after the
suspect, screaming for help the entire way. When they reached the
railroad tracks, a passerby kicked over the suspect’s bike and corralled
him for police.
Police said Surasak confessed, saying it was his first attempt at bag
snatching. He said he needed cash for daily expenses.
