Lovin’ Thailand
Editor;
Re: You’re not above the locals (PM Mailbag Friday, 31 May 2013) - I just
spent 2 weeks in Thailand, the majority of which was in Pattaya. I think I
am addicted to the place. Thanks Thailand for a great holiday. Thanks
Pattaya. Thai people are infectious. Be back soon as I can.

Someone should produce a new Bible
Editor;
Why hasn’t an enlightened public demanded that all derogatory references to
women, blacks, atheists, gays and lesbians be removed from holy books? These
people have suffered from the beginning of time. Their continued present day
inclusion in holy books is beyond belief. They have been ignored,
imprisoned, dismissed, tried, tortured, stoned, raped and immured and
lapidated. They constitute at least one half of the world’s population.
The burden of these people has to some extent been removed by wise
politicians, courts, and liberal theologians. Some presidents have also been
wise advocates for change for these people. Certainly President Obama’s
recent fights for women and homosexuals have produced unbelievable results.
Soon the Supreme Court will rule on gay marriage. The president should be
lauded for his attempts to have a new morality, but some fundamentalists
still believe in the inerrancy of the bible, and that is difficult to
overcome.
Certainly the good books have some outstanding examples of good behavior,
but they have lost respect over their refusal to put a new twenty first
century morality into religion. What we have on hand now is painful,
obsolete, unfair and tragic.
There have been hundreds of gods and hundreds of religions on record that
have failed for refusing to change. Surely it is not sacrilegious to change
what is considered sacrosanct if necessary. Democracy needs a new religious
face to present to the world, and like President Thomas Jefferson wrote,
someone should produce a new Bible.

A good start,
but more needed
Editor;
Re: Man nabbed in capital for illegal wildlife trading (PM Wednesday, 05
June 2013) - While this is a good start, how might authorities clean up the
Chatuchak Market? This market openly trades threatened and endangered
species.

Pattaya turning into Spain
Editor;
Re: 2nd Road turning into garbage dump (PM Mailbag Friday, 31 May 2013) - I
agree; however, no disrespect to Thai people... “Chow Cham-Yen Cham” nothing
will ever change. But let’s first sort out our own kind before we move on to
the people this country belongs too. Farang are the biggest problem in
Thailand. 20 odd years ago Thailand was a fantastic place, until jonny
2-weeks started to show his face. If I didn’t have a wife and 2 daughters I
would head for Laos or somewhere like that. Thailand is now like Spain.
Shame really.

Why is wine so
expensive in Thailand?
Editor;
Does anyone know why wine is so expensive in Thailand? I recently had the
pleasure of a short trip to Luang Prabang in Laos and in one of the top
restaurants it was possible to get a decent bottle of French or Australian
wine for about 45 dollars. The equivalent wine in an equivalent restaurant
in Pattaya could cost you 120 dollars. Why?
If you were an alcoholic and needed a half bottle of gin or whiskey before
breakfast, you are in paradise, as you can buy a bottle of either for about
350 baht. If Thailand wants to attract more than the beer swilling tourist
it should consider the plight of those of us that like a glass of wine with
our dinner.

Sawadee Khrup, my name is Lester. I live in the UK and I come to Thailand
two or three times a year. I stay at Beach Road, Jon Apartments in Soi 13/2
Post Office, which is situated opposite the Post Office. I took this picture
in 2012 at about 18.00 hrs on Pattaya Beach. I thought it was quite unique.
I have seen many tourists taking pictures of the sunset on this beach but
none like this, have you? I thought you my like it to put in an
advertisement for Pattaya tourism. Khop Khun Khrup,

Re: Your future wife is waiting - (PM Hillary Friday, 31 May 2013) - Hey
Jimmy guess you meant 10,000 a month. I once stayed in a hotel at Lopburi
for B70 a night. Clean but showing its age. I think you would get a monthly
stay for under B2000. My breakfast today: 3 fishcakes, 2 eggs, 2 tomatoes,
slice of toast. Zapped in microwave. Total cost B45. ($1.30). Tod mun pla at
Big C 6 for B35. Don’t know about lunch but will have a Ratnakhai for tea
B50 (broad egg noodles, chicken & mixed veggies in gravy). Total cost for
today B105. Maybe I’ll settle for a MaMa for lunch. This leaves you over
B1000 a day to play with. Oh yeah, I’ve still got 3 fishcakes in the fridge
if I get hungry.
