The Father Ray Foundation raised nearly 13 tons of rice and more
than 1.7 million baht during its S.O.S. Rice 2012 campaign.
Foundation President Rev. Michael Picharn Jaiseri said the drive, which
began Dec. 4, collected 12,939 kg of rice and 1.76 million baht from
donation boxes at shopping malls, government offices and schools.
Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome, Phawin Phettrakul, general manager for the
Alcazar cabaret show, and Praichit Jetpai, chairwoman of the YWCA
Bangkok-Pattaya Center, capped off the charity drive at the Feb. 4 press
conference by donating another 1 ton and 90 bags of rice, respectively.
“This year’s drive was an immense success and better than 2011, when 1.3
million baht in cash and rice was raised,” Jaiseri said.
Funds and rice go toward supporting 850 children under the care of the
Father Ray Foundation and its Redemptorist schools.
