Austrian ambassador
plays Santa Claus for CPDC

After the shopping spree
everyone has lunch together.
Elfi Seitz
Austria’s ambassador to Thailand last month played Santa Claus for
children at the Child Protection and Development Center.
For the second consecutive year, Johannes Peterlik and his “Mrs. Claus,”
Ria-Ursula Peterlik, bought gifts for 55 children Dec. 19 at the Toys R Us
store at Central Center.
Radchada Chomjinda, the director of Human Help Network Thailand, some German
volunteers and mall employees helped the children choose the perfect
presents. The kids’ faces lit up as they gazed at all the toys.

Ambassador Dr. Johannes
Peterlik hands over a check to Supagon Noja, the director of the ATCC.
Ria-Ursula’s mother and Sumeth Sukapanpotharam, managing
director of TM Design Co., pledged to contribute toward next year’s Santa
celebration and donated medicine and a water tank to the CPDC.
Consul General Rudolf Hofer topped off the kids’ big day, taking all of them
to McDonalds for lunch.
Peterlik, meanwhile, moved on to the Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Abuse
Center, where he presented Director Supagon Noja 2.4 million baht from the
embassy’s police contingent, which helped bust a watch-smuggling operation.

Jesters Care for Kids supply bicycles for Mercy kids

For children who have had very little in their
short lives, having a bicycle of their very own is a happy moment for them.
Bernie Tuppin
On Tuesday, 8th January, Lewis [Woody] Underwood, President of the Jesters
Care for Kids and I traveled to Mercy Ministries’ new premises in Pong District
to present 9 brand new bicycles to children in their care. Mercy Ministries,
under the guidance of Pastor Fred Doell and his wife Diane, have operated in
Pattaya since the year 2000 caring for local children at risk, abused or
abandoned.
At “Our Father’s House” they currently have 28 children in their care. Mercy
also supports a scholarship programme for underprivileged children and delivers
food parcels to the less fortunate living in slum areas.
For children who have had very little in their short lives, having a bicycle of
their very own is a happy moment for them. The picture shows this happiness far
better than words could describe.
As always Jesters Care for Kids were proud to be able to assist in bringing this
joy. Thanks to Numchai Bicycle Shop for their generous discounts and to Lhen
Lhen for her assistance in selecting the appropriate bicycles.

“I know we’ve come a long way,
We’re changing day to day,
But tell me, where ‘will’ the children play?”
- Cat Stevens
We had a great run holding our annual family outings at the Diana Garden Resort
and Driving Range in North Pattaya, but now after 11 years, it has come to an
end. The driving range has been rented to a Japanese consortium, which has
already seen an upgrade to the facilities.
After receiving a courtesy call from Diana management about the transition, of
course, we were taken aback, but then we also appreciated their candor. We
thanked them deeply for hosting our Fairs for over a decade and presented them
with a certificate expressing our gratitude.
We know it will not be easy finding another venue like theirs, and given the
ubiquitous construction going on in city these days, it probably means having to
look afar beyond the city limits.
So presently we have a date for the Fair on Sunday, September 8th, but not a
venue. In the meantime, enjoy the pictures from good times gone by.
