BANGKOK, 13 August 2015 – The Thai Federation of Provincial Tourist Association (TFOPTA) has made known that major travel promotions are being planned later this year to boost flagging tourism.

The federation elaborated that the slow recovery in Thai and global economy has severely impacted the tourism sector. Around 65 affiliated tourism associations are planning to revive businesses by announcing travel campaigns and incentives to attract local visitors.

The Northeast has been hardest hit by the decline in tourist arrivals as destinations in the region have not been as widely promoted as those in other parts of Thailand. Tours in the Northeast will feature a route linking attractions alongside Mekong River. In other regions, Ranong, Hat Yai, Rayong, Trat and Chiang Rai will also be touted in the new campaigns.

The federation said the tourism market will remain lackluster until the end of the year and the revenue from the sector is expected to drop by 10-20 percent this year.
