Hat Yai tourism boosted during Hari Raya Haji religious festival

SONGKHLA, Oct 14 – Thai Muslims and visitors from abroad are celebrating the Hari Raya Haji festival, which falls on October 15, resulting in a lively atmosphere and growing room occupancy in Hat Yai district.

Hat Yai-Songkhla Hotel Business Association president Somchat Pimthanapoonporn said more than 15,000 hotel rooms in Hat Yai are booked, almost to capacity, by Thai-Muslim visitors and tourists from Malaysia and Singapore who were allowed to take leave during this holy period.

Mr Somchat said the tourists have confidence in Thai security measures despite circulating rumors of possible disturbances by insurgent groups.

Security has been especially tightened for the Hari Raya Haji festival while both the public and private sectors have worked together to ensure tourists’ safety.
