BANGKOK, Thailand – UNIQLO (Thailand) has joined hands with Chulalongkorn University Demonstration School to broaden the reach of the “Happy Gloves: Sharing Joy for Children, Sharing Love for the World” project, an innovative effort aimed at improving the lives of children with cerebral palsy.
The project originated from a fifth-grade innovation competition, where four young students (now university students) developed the first version of the Happy Gloves. These specialized gloves are designed to alleviate hand spasms and prevent self-injury in children with cerebral palsy. Each glove features a built-in wrist brace and a soft toy in the palm, combining therapeutic support with elements of play to enhance both physical and emotional well-being.
Since its inception, the project has grown into a shining example of student-led social innovation. The team has continuously tested and refined the gloves with the help of users at learning centers and hospitals. The latest version is a one-size-fits-all design equipped with a signal alert system that notifies caregivers during intense muscle spasms, enabling faster and more effective intervention.
Demonstrating a strong commitment to inclusive care, UNIQLO has donated 1,000 sets of Happy Gloves to King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital and the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, who will oversee distribution to children in need across Thailand. (NNT)
