BANGKOK, Thailand – A water expert from TEAM Group, Chawalit Chanthararat, announced on Sept. 29, that two storms currently forming in the western Pacific Ocean will not affect Thailand’s weather.

The two storms are:
Tropical Depression Jebi (#17) – Named after the Korean swallow, this is the 17th storm of the year. Formed in the western Pacific, Jebi is expected to move along Japan’s Tokyo coastline on Sept. 30, causing heavy rainfall on the eastern coast and at sea. Typhoon Krathon (#18) – Named after a Thai fruit, Krathon is the 18th storm of the year, forming in the upper eastern Pacific near the Philippines.

On Sept. 30, Krathon is predicted to intensify into a Category 4 typhoon, bringing severe rain and strong winds to northern Philippines. Between Oct. 1 and 2, it will affect Taiwan with heavy rainfall and strong winds. From Oct. 2 to 3, it will weaken into a Category 2 typhoon, moving northeast. By Oct. 4 and 5, it will further weaken into a Category 1 typhoon, making landfall in South Korea and causing heavy rain. On Oct. 6, it is expected to bring rain to the Sea of Japan and parts of Japan’s western coastal areas.
