BANGKOK, Thailand – The government reported that the “Thais Help Thais Plus 60/40” economic stimulus program has injected over 86.44 billion baht into the grassroots economy during its first two months. Deputy Government Spokesperson Lalida Persvivatana announced on August 2 that the initiative has reduced living costs and increased domestic purchasing power. As of July 31, more than 26 million citizens and 1.19 million merchants were actively participating.
The merchant base includes nearly 977,000 returning vendors and over 215,000 new registrants, reflecting steady growth in digital commerce. Of the 86.44 billion baht spent, 49.6 billion baht came from government subsidies and 36.84 billion baht from public co-payments. Most transactions took place at physical storefronts, directly supporting small retailers, food stalls, and local hawkers. Food delivery platforms represented 3.4 percent of sales. The 60/40 co-payment model has increased capital circulation and helped sustain private consumption during periods of reduced purchasing power.
To support long-term business growth, participating merchants use the “Tung Ngern” application, which employs artificial intelligence to analyze costs, inventory, and sales. This information enables micro-enterprises to improve efficiency and build financial profiles for future credit access.
The Deputy Spokesperson reminded the public that the program runs until September 30. The government covers 60 percent of eligible purchases, up to 200 baht per day and 1,000 baht per month per person. Since unused monthly balances do not carry over, the public is encouraged to use their full benefits to lower household expenses and support the local economy.
