Pol Maj Gen Jirasant Kaewsaeng-ek, deputy commissioner of the MPB, said the new rule under the Land Traffic Act would take effect in the next 120 days or on Sept 5 and it was intended to save children in the event of a traffic accident.

The Metropolitan Police Bureau states clearly that it has not imposed a child car seat rule on vehicles with a child aged six years and younger yet.

Pol Maj Gen Jirasant Kaewsaeng-ek, deputy commissioner of the MPB, said the new rule under the Land Traffic Act would take effect in the next 120 days or on Sept 5 and it was intended to save children in the event of a traffic accident.

The rule requires a guardian install a special car seat for a child aged six years and younger or finds a method to guarantee the child’s safety on their vehicle.

The rule did not only require a child car seat but also allowed any other safety solution, Pol Maj Gen Jirasant. A guardian could hold a child on laps and fasten a seat belt for both of them, he cited.

The Royal Thai Police Office would work out relevant safety solutions in details before the effective date of the new rule, the deputy Bangkok police chief said. (TNA)
