BANGKOK, Thailand – Thailand is presenting wildlife conservation through winter art at the 76th Sapporo Snow Festival, where the Tourism Authority of Thailand’s Tokyo office has led a Thai team into the 50th International Snow Sculpture Contest at Odori Park in Sapporo, Japan. The contest is one of the festival’s main international events, featuring teams from across the world.
The Thai entry, titled The Love of Hornbills, has been created under the concept From the Beak of a Bird to the Heart of Nature. The snow sculpture depicts a hornbill feeding its chick, conveying warmth, the richness of Thailand’s natural environment, and a call to protect wildlife and forest habitats.
The work presents the hornbill as a symbol of enduring bonds and ecological balance, in line with Thailand Love Hornbills Day on February 13. It also introduces global audiences to Khao Yai National Park, a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site that serves as an important habitat for hornbills and other rare species.
Thailand’s national snow sculpture team is currently competing in the contest, with the sculpting period running through February 7 and awards to be announced later that day as part of the festival program. (NNT)
