BANGKOK, Thailand – Thailand’s Ministry of Tourism and Sports has confirmed that the Cabinet has approved the cancellation of the 60-day visa-free scheme covering more than 90 countries, reverting entry conditions back to the previous standard, May 19. Tourism and Sports Minister Surasak Pancharoenworakul said the Cabinet resolved to withdraw the extended visa exemption period and return affected countries to earlier entry rules, which in most cases allow stays of around 30 days.
The decision also applies to countries previously granted multiple-entry facilitation under the same framework.
According to the minister, the matter will now be reviewed further by the National Committee on Immigration Policy, which will reassess each country individually. The committee is expected to determine appropriate visa categories based on both economic benefits and national security considerations before proposing a revised framework to the government. Under the revised approach, officials will evaluate each country on a case-by-case basis to decide suitable visa arrangements, rather than applying a broad multi-country exemption policy. All affected travellers will now revert to the original visa conditions applicable to their nationality until a new policy is formally introduced and approved.
