BANGKOK, Thailand –Thai Prime Minister and Myanmar President on Thursday lead delegation-level bilateral talks, reaffirming their commitment to expanding cooperation across all dimensions while witnessing the signing of three MOUs covering labor, water quality management, and space technology.
Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul welcomes Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, President of Myanmar, for delegation-level bilateral discussions during his official visit to Thailand, aiming to advance cooperation across all sectors. The Prime Minister reaffirms Thailand’s readiness to support Myanmar’s engagement within ASEAN and to foster joint initiatives for the sustainable growth of both nations, spanning political and security affairs, transnational crime prevention, economic affairs, labor, environmental management, transboundary haze, and river pollution.
Following the discussions, the Prime Minister and the President of Myanmar witness the exchange of three key cooperation documents:
A Memorandum of Understanding on Labor Cooperation and an Agreement on Employment of Workers.
The Terms of Reference for the Joint Working Group on Water Quality Management in Border and Transboundary Rivers between Thailand and Myanmar, aimed at systematically addressing transboundary pollution.
A Memorandum of Understanding between the Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA) and the Myanmar Space Agency on Cooperation in the Peaceful Applications of Earth Observation Technology.
Later, the Prime Minister and the President of Myanmar jointly inaugurate and address the Thailand-Myanmar Business Forum 2026. Marking the first jointly organized business platform between the two nations, the event gathers over 700 representatives from the public and private sectors, as well as economic institutions, of both countries.
The Prime Minister opens his remarks with the Myanmar greeting “Mingalaba” before stating that Thailand and Myanmar are prepared to enter a new chapter of economic cooperation. He emphasizes that regardless of political developments, the government’s primary duty is to ensure public well-being and sustain economic momentum without disruption. Both sides share a firm commitment to revitalizing bilateral trade within this year, aiming to reach the target of $12 billion (378 billion baht) as swiftly as possible.
Meanwhile, the President of Myanmar outlines plans to establish Myanmar as a strategic “land bridge” connecting three regions, inviting Thai investment in the EV, renewable energy sectors, and the Dawei Deep Seaport project. He expresses confidence that combining Myanmar’s rich natural resources with the technology, capital, and managerial expertise of Thai entrepreneurs will create a win-win business environment yielding sustainable mutual benefits.
Concurrently, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sihasak Phuangketkeow delivers a summary of the Myanmar President’s official visit, highlighting that this marks the first presidential visit to Thailand in eight years. He affirms that Thailand aims to transform the Thai-Myanmar border into a zone of peace and development. He further notes that Thailand welcomes recent progress, including representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) being granted access to former State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi. Expressing hope that Myanmar will allow the ASEAN Special Envoy to meet with Aung San Suu Kyi in the future, he also conveys Thailand’s expectation that the Myanmar government will continue its transition toward democracy.
