NONTHABURI, Thailand – Police investigating the deadly shooting at Debsirin Nonthaburi School have found the suspect’s grandparents dead at their home, with authorities examining whether they were killed before the attack. The 14-year-old Grade 9 student was identified as the gunman who opened fire at the school on Friday, leaving eight people dead, including the suspect, and 36 others injured. Police are continuing to investigate the motive behind the attack and the events leading up to the shooting.
Police said the teenager lived with his grandparents at a residence in Soi Wat Ladpladuk, Bang Kurat, Bang Bua Thong district, Nonthaburi. When officers searched the home, they found the bodies of his grandfather and grandmother. Investigators said the grandparents were believed to have been killed using the same CZ 9mm handgun used in the school shooting. The firearm was legally registered to the suspect’s grandfather, police said.
Relatives told authorities that the teenager had lived with his grandparents after his parents separated two years ago. He was described as a quiet student who spent much of his time playing video games and kept to himself. Police have secured the residence and school area while continuing to gather evidence and determine the motive behind the attack. The suspect’s parents have also been brought in for questioning as authorities work to establish the full sequence of events.
