BANGKOK, Thailand – The government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, is stepping up enforcement against foreign nationals who violate Thai law in major tourist destinations, promoting higher-quality tourism and maintaining public order.
The policy has drawn wider attention following recent enforcement operations in Phuket province targeting unauthorized employment, nominee business operations, illegal condominium rentals, visa overstays, and other unlawful activities linked to some foreign visitors. The Israeli Embassy in Thailand recently advised its citizens to strictly comply with Thai law following intensified inspections.
Acting on a policy that tourism growth must be balanced with residents’ rights and well-being, authorities have expanded coordination among provincial governors, police, immigration officers, and security agencies to increase enforcement across all tourism areas and other major destinations.
Officials also pointed to stricter tourism management measures in various other countries, where authorities have introduced tighter controls to address similar concerns.
Anutin affirmed Thailand will continue welcoming international visitors, but made clear that foreign nationals must comply with Thai law and respect local communities. This balance helps preserve the country’s reputation as a destination that promotes responsible tourism, maintains public order, and supports long-term sustainability for both residents and visitors.
