Army spokesperson Major General Winthai Suvaree calls the latest PMN-2 explosion a systematic attempt to undermine border stability.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Army Spokesperson Major General Winthai Suvaree stated that the latest landmine explosion, which injured a Thai soldier on Thursday afternoon, is viewed as part of a systematic plan by Cambodia to threaten and harm Thai forces. He described the act as an obstacle to de-escalating Thai-Cambodian border tensions.

The incident occurred on August 27th when a soldier on patrol stepped on a PMN-2 landmine near Prasat Ta Kwai and Hill 350. This marks the sixth such incident and the third to occur since the most recent ceasefire agreement was established.

The spokesperson emphasized that the mine was planted in an area already cleared and controlled by Thai forces, which he said demonstrates clear intent. He noted that the pattern of placement indicates the mines are new and not remnants of past conflicts. Major General Winthai stated that while Thai patrols in the area have been scaled back, they primarily operate in areas considered safe and under Thai control, making the new mine a deliberate act of aggression.
