BANGKOK, Thailand – The National Bureau of Agricultural Commodity and Food Standards (ACFS) has affirmed the quality and safety of Thai raw cow’s milk, highlighting stringent production standards recognized internationally. The system ensures comprehensive quality checks at every stage, from dairy farms to collection centers, guaranteeing that milk reaching consumers is clean, safe, and of high quality.
As the key agency responsible for agricultural standards, ACFS has developed three core standards for raw cow’s milk:
TAS 6003-2010: Raw Cow’s Milk – Defines chemical composition and quality, including protein, fat, and non-fat solids, and sets safety criteria such as microbial counts, coliforms, and residue levels to ensure safe consumption.
TAS 6402-2019: Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) for Dairy Farms – Provides guidelines for farm management to produce high-quality milk, covering animal health, feeding, milking, storage, and hygienic transportation.
TAS 6401-2015: Good Practices for Raw Milk Collection Centers – Enforces procedures for receiving milk, quality inspections, cooling, and storage, requiring milk to be cooled to below 4°C within two hours and maintained at proper temperatures to slow microbial growth.
ACFS, together with the Department of Livestock Development and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), continuously monitors milk quality. Any milk failing to meet standards is not allowed into processing.
ACFS emphasized that consumers can trust Thai cow’s milk certified under government standards and encouraged the public to make informed choices based on reliable information for healthy consumption across all ages. (TNA)
