BANGKOK, Thailand – The government is closely monitoring the development of the “Super El Niño” phenomenon, with the Prime Minister directing all relevant state agencies to submit progress reports on national water management and agricultural security frameworks next week. Spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office Rachada Dhanadirek revealed that Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul expressed concern over the escalating climate crisis and instructed specialized public sector divisions to prepare response measures and contingency plans.

According to the spokesperson, these plans address water management for consumption, household use, agriculture, industry, the environment, and biodiversity. These sectors directly impact people’s livelihoods and the country’s economic stability. The Prime Minister has directed all responsible agencies to present their action plans, measures taken, and progress on preparedness to the Cabinet at next week’s meeting.

The Prime Minister also expressed concern about public safety and property protection amid volatile weather, including thunderstorms, strong winds, and summer storms, which have caused trees and branches to fall in several areas. The Ministry of Interior, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, local administrative organizations, and relevant agencies have been instructed to urgently survey high-risk areas, trim trees, and inspect billboards, buildings, and public infrastructure that could be affected. They must also prepare preventive measures and emergency response plans to ensure readiness for any situation. (NNT)
