BANGKOK, Thailand – Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul has directed politicians and public figures to strictly follow firearm laws, highlighting their responsibility as public role models during ongoing national gun control efforts. The Prime Minister noted that although legal possession and declaration of firearms are personal matters, carrying weapons must fully comply with the law. He warned that firearm offenses by politicians may result in ethical reviews and affect their eligibility for future elections or office.
The Prime Minister also announced that the suspension of Por. 4 firearm licenses will remain in effect until further notice. With approximately 10 million firearms among 70 million people, the government is prioritizing stricter regulation of gun access and use to prevent incidents and reduce public-safety risks. The Prime Minister clarified that anyone using a firearm, even claiming necessity or self-defense, must go through the legal process and prove their case in court. He urged all parties, especially public figures and officeholders, to consider the serious legal consequences. He advised strict compliance with the law and recommended avoiding firearms altogether.
