CHANTHABURI, Thailand – The Royal Thai Armed Forces have begun constructing a 1.3-kilometer security fence along the Thai-Cambodian border in Chanthaburi province to enhance border security and local safety, security sources said.
The construction covers a 1,310-meter stretch between border markers 52 and 54 in the Pong Nam Ron district. The area consists of flat terrain where the boundary is clearly defined, with patrol roads running alongside the border on both the Thai and Cambodian sides.
The structure is approximately 170 centimeters high, featuring a reinforced concrete foundation with pillars spaced three meters apart. The fence consists of precast concrete panels topped with high-durability steel mesh to enhance surveillance capabilities.
Security sources noted that while Cambodian soldiers have been observed monitoring and photographing the site, Thai authorities maintained that all work is being conducted strictly within Thai territory and is a sovereign right.
The first phase of the project is expected to be completed within 45 days. Work began in late April 2026 and has continued daily to meet the deadline. (TNA)
