CHIANG MAI, Thailand – A Myanmar man and a Korean woman narrowly escaped after a car they were travelling in caught fire from the engine compartment in Doi Saket district on August 10.
The fire broke out at around 6:52 p.m. in front of Thanapiriya Supermarket in Mae Kue subdistrict. Police from Doi Saket Police Station and rescue workers from the Chiang Mai Katanyu Tham Kuson Association rushed to the scene and used water and chemical extinguishers to bring the blaze under control.
Initial reports said the Myanmar man was driving the car with the Korean woman as a passenger. They had travelled from San Kamphaeng district towards the area when flames suddenly erupted from the front engine compartment. The driver quickly stopped the vehicle, allowing both occupants to open the doors and escape before the fire rapidly spread through the car. Firefighters eventually extinguished the blaze, but the vehicle was heavily damaged and left largely destroyed. Neither occupant was injured. Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.
