Thai, French Foreign Ministers discuss strategic partnership during Paris talks

Sihasak Phuangketkeow meets with Jean-Noël Barrot in Paris to discuss strengthening Thailand–France relations, exploring an upgrade to a Strategic Partnership, and exchanging views on regional security, people-to-people ties, and geopolitical issues in Southeast Asia.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Minister of Foreign Affairs Sihasak Phuangketkeow held a bilateral meeting with Jean-Noël Barrot, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of the French Republic, during his visit to Paris.

Both sides discussed strengthening their long-standing bilateral relations, focusing on continued high-level exchanges. They explored opportunities to enhance cooperation and elevate relations to a “Strategic Partnership” in recognition of the 170th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Thailand and France. Discussions also included people-to-people exchanges and cultural cooperation.



The two sides exchanged views on geopolitical and security challenges in Southeast Asia, including shared interests. The Foreign Minister commended France’s neutral and constructive role in promoting international peace and stability, particularly regarding the Thai-Cambodian border. The Foreign Minister also provided an update on the situation in Myanmar and efforts to combat scams in the region. (NNT)
