PATTAYA, Thailand – Thailand’s Immigration Bureau is preparing for the arrival of more than 5,000 US military personnel aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln, which is scheduled to visit Thailand from September 2–6. Pol. Col. Parinya Klinkeson, Deputy Commander of Immigration Division 3 and its spokesperson, said the visit reflects the strong relationship between Thailand and the United States while also presenting an important opportunity for the economy and tourism industry in the eastern region, particularly Chonburi and surrounding areas.
Immigration Division 3 is asking residents and businesses in Chonburi and nearby areas to act as “good hosts” by welcoming the visitors with friendliness and providing courteous and fair services.
Businesses are also being urged not to take advantage of the influx of visitors by charging excessive prices, misleading customers or engaging in unfair practices.
The visit is expected to bring additional spending to Pattaya and surrounding tourist areas, particularly hotels, restaurants, entertainment venues, transportation services and local businesses.
The appeal comes at a time when Pattaya is experiencing its traditional low season, with some businesses and residents recently expressing concern over quieter streets and weaker tourist activity.
The arrival of thousands of US personnel could provide a short-term boost to local businesses, but the immigration authorities’ message also underlines the importance of ensuring that visitors leave with a positive impression of Pattaya and Chonburi. For a tourism city seeking to strengthen its reputation and attract repeat visitors, fair prices, good service and responsible hospitality can be just as important as the number of visitors arriving.
