BANGKOK, Thailand – Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister, Pichai Chunhavajira, has returned to Thailand following a high-level trade dialogue in Washington, D.C., where he led the “Team Thailand” delegation in key meetings with the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) and U.S. Deputy Treasury officials.
Minister Pichai described the talks as positive and constructive, emphasizing that U.S. officials appreciated Thailand’s proactive engagement and long-standing role as a reliable economic partner. Although the two sides have yet to reach a final agreement, Pichai said Thailand remains committed to crafting a refined and mutually beneficial proposal that could lead to a long-term, sustainable “win-win solution.”
“The U.S. was pleased with Thailand’s enthusiasm and willingness to collaborate. We have agreed to take back their requests and develop a clearer, updated proposal,” said Pichai.
While in the U.S., the Thai delegation also met with various public and private sector stakeholders, including major American investors with long-term commitments in Thailand. Both sides expressed strong interest in agricultural cooperation, as well as broader trade and investment facilitation.
Thai officials hope that the forthcoming revised proposal—backed by detailed discussions—will support policy-level consideration by the U.S. government and move the negotiation closer to a final outcome. (TNA)
