Immigration crackdown at Don Mueang: Chinese man arrested using altered Mexican passport.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Thai immigration police at Don Mueang Airport have arrested a Chinese national attempting to leave the country using a reported-lost Mexican passport that had been altered with new personal data. The man was en route to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

According to Pol. Lt. Gen. Phanumas Boonyalak, Commissioner of the Immigration Bureau, the arrest was part of an ongoing crackdown on potential foreign threats to national security. Pol. Maj. Gen. Choengron Rimpadee, Commander of Immigration Division 2, confirmed the details of the arrest, which took place on 3 July around 3:10 PM.

Officers at the airport’s departure gate flagged the traveler after noticing suspicious behavior. The man presented a Mexican passport under the name Mr. Lin Arrioja Jianwang, but his appearance resembled someone of East Asian descent. Further checks revealed the passport had been reported lost in the INTERPOL database and had undergone unauthorized alterations, specifically on the identity page.

Using Thailand’s Biometric Identification System, authorities confirmed that the suspect is actually Mr. Lin Jianwang, a Chinese national who entered Thailand on 27 June 2024 using the same Mexican passport. He was attempting to board AirAsia flight AK885 to Kuala Lumpur.

The suspect denied all charges during questioning. He was taken, along with the forged passport, to Don Mueang Police Station for legal proceedings. (TNA)
