Severe storm topples 73 power poles and damages over 100 homes in Lopburi

A powerful summer storm swept through Lopburi, knocking down 73 high-voltage power poles, leaving more than 2,000 residents without electricity, and damaging 121 homes as emergency crews rushed to restore power and assist affected families.

LOPBURI, Thailand – A severe summer storm struck Lopburi province, toppling more than 70 high-voltage power poles, causing hours of blackouts, and damaging over a hundred homes. Various agencies are currently providing emergency assistance.

Thunderstorms and high winds battered Ban Mi district on May 10, causing 73 high-voltage power poles to collapse. The damage left more than 2,000 residents without electricity. Additionally, strong winds damaged the roofs and walls of 121 houses affecting 319 people.



Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) officials in Lopburi have coordinated teams and heavy machinery to remove broken poles blocking traffic and to disconnect power for safety. Authorities are working to establish a temporary distribution system and have deployed mobile generator trucks to provide electricity to residents.

On May 11, local officials, visited affected residents at Phadung Tham Temple. Tents were provided to 16 residents whose roofs were damaged to serve as temporary shelter while officials assess the total property damage.

At Phadung Tham Temple, a large multi-purpose dome was lifted by the wind and carried 300 meters over residential houses, resulting in its total destruction. The temple abbot reported significant damage to several structures, including the roofs of the ordination hall, monks’ quarters, and the sermon hall. (TNA)
