BANGKOK, 16 April 2014  Director of the Center for Managing Peace and Order Chalerm Yubamrung has announced that he will ask the Cabinet to lift the Emergency Decree in Bangkok and the vicinity during the Cabinet meeting this Tuesday.

Mr Chalerm, who is also the Minister of Labor, said the Emergency Decree should be revoked due to its effects on the overall investment and tourism atmosphere of the country. The government would replace the law with the Internal Security Act in dealing with political protests, he said.

The minister also expressed his concerns over the political situation in April, saying that he feared it might turn violent. As for independent organizations’ suggested road map to reform, Mr Chalerm said they had good intentions but their suggestion would be rejected if it was unconstitutional.
