DOHA, Qatar – Qatar Airways, the national carrier of Qatar, has placed a massive order for 160 Boeing aircraft, marking one of the largest deals for twin-aisle widebody passenger planes. The agreement includes 30 Boeing 777X and 130 Boeing 787 Dreamliners, with an option to purchase 50 more aircraft in the future. The total deal is valued at $96 billion USD.
The announcement coincided with a visit by U.S. President Donald Trump to Qatar, with the White House touting the deal as a significant economic and diplomatic win for the United States in the Middle East region.
All aircraft will be powered by GE Aerospace engines, delivering a boost to the U.S. aviation and engine manufacturing sectors. The deal also comes at a time when rival aircraft manufacturer Airbus is facing maintenance challenges with its A350 jets, which use Rolls-Royce engines, particularly in hot climate regions such as the Persian Gulf.
While the aircraft deliveries will take several years to complete, the agreement reinforces Boeing’s position in the global aviation market and reflects Qatar Airways’ commitment to expanding its long-haul fleet.
